A modernized identity for the planners shaping what’s next.
A modernized identity for the planners shaping what’s next.
Monteith Brown has spent nearly five decades helping communities plan what comes next. It was time for its own brand to have a clearer plan for the future. I led a complete overhaul of the logo and visual identity, bringing greater clarity to the firm’s three areas of expertise. The new system stretched from the firm’s client-facing materials to original team photography and a fully redesigned website.

The existing website and marketing materials lacked consistency and did not fully reflect the organization’s approachable, youth-focused mission. The goal was to create a more engaging and accessible visual experience that could better connect with younger audiences while maintaining credibility within healthcare and educational spaces. As a freelance designer, I supported the refresh through website design, brand development, social content, and supporting marketing materials.

How it was solved
After getting a clear picture of their goals, the work began with market research and a look at where competitors were positioned. From there, the creative direction followed the same logic as the planning process. First, establish direction. Then, understand the landscape and create a clear path through it. That progression connected the logo, visual system, and website, giving the brand one clear idea to build from.

Brand Identity
Once the identity had a direction, it then needed a landscape. Topographic lines' flowing forms made the visual system feel less rigid, balancing the dense, technical information the work needed to communicate. The muted palette and straightforward typography kept that content grounded and readable, while the overall system felt approachable and contemporary.

Web Design
I designed the website to move from promise to proof. It opens with a clear statement about the future, then shows the expertise behind it through the firm’s three practice areas. Audience-focused content helps visitors recognize where their needs fit, while key figures turn decades of experience into immediate proof. Detailed team profiles bring that experience back to the people doing the work, with headshots I photographed to give the site a consistent and more personal presence.

Brand Assets
Marketing materials, social graphics, headshot photography, and supporting brand assets were developed to extend the brand into proposals, presentations, and day-to-day client communications.

The Outcome
Monteith Brown now has a brand that reflects the calibre of their work. The updated identity, website, and materials work together as a single system, giving the firm a stronger foundation for client-facing communication and a presence that can grow with them.
